What is the cost of Gorilla Permits in Uganda?

Gorilla permits in Uganda cost USD $600 per person for the normal gorilla trekking activity and USD1500 for researchers who opt for gorilla habituation and want to spend more hours with the gorillas. The permits are sold locally on a cash basis at the UWA offices in Kampala. Sometimes the response from UWA is quite slow and can be frustrating, hence the need to buy one ahead of time.

Gorilla permits in Uganda are priced a bit differently despite the standard price being USD600.00. These varied prices include the following denominations; USD $600.00 per person for foreign nonresidents, USD500.00 for foreign residents with working permits and sh250,000 for East African Citizens.

How to Book and Secure Gorilla Permits in Uganda?

To make sure that the gorilla trekking experience in Uganda is organized successfully, it is advisable to obtain a gorilla permit very early (at least 3-7 months) before the day you plan to visit.   2. You will be required to book at least with half of the gorilla permit fee through the tour operator who will then send you confirmation details via email. (Please note that you can book online through PesaPal, PayPal or using your credit card money transfer)
  3. Please remember to instruct your bank to deduct the bank charges for the transaction from your account. they don’t ask for any extra money for the gorilla permit if you are reserving the rest of your tour through them. Any additional costs will be for services like telephony and transport that will be incurred when acquiring the permit.
  4. You will send a copy of your passport availing the details which will be used to register for your permit. Normally, all we need is just your full name, nationality, and the passport number.

A valid permit is used by one person and is non-reusable after the activity is done.
